THE 1930s
BEFORE DAWN
From the courts of Brianza to the Milan market
In Tregasio di Triuggio, Mario began selling fruits and vegetables as a young boy, with a knack for business already in his blood. He always knew where to find the best produce, and every day he would set out on foot at dawn to find it.
At age twenty, luck smiled on him: he bought a horse-drawn cart and made his way to the Milan Produce Market, then one of the largest in Europe. Every morning, he would pass people cycling toward Falk and Breda. Years later, some of those fellow travelers would go on to work for him.
It’s already a community.
THE 1960s
THE PEACEFUL REVOLUTION
The fruit and vegetable wholesale industry in Brianza has a new leader
The 1960s brought an economic boom, and Mario was ready for it.
In the meantime, he had married Carmela (the first woman in Brianza to get her driver’s license!) and together they made their second big dream come true: a logistics hub dedicated to the wholesale fruit and vegetable trade. Fumagalli Mario was born. It was 1968, and while the world took to the streets, he launched his own very personal, peaceful revolution.
1980s–2000s
GROW, THEN CHOOSE
A bold choice, an even more distinct identity
In the 1980s, Fumagalli broadened its horizons: it entered the large-scale retail sector and became a supplier to the institutional food service industry. The business grew, and volumes increased. Then came the time to make a choice. In the 1990s, Danilo made a clear decision to focus on what he does best. Fumagalli Danilo carefully selected its clientele and focused on commercial catering, without abandoning institutional catering, neighborhood stores, produce vendors, and street vendors—those long-standing customers with whom the relationship was built on trust, continuity, and mutual understanding. In the 2000s, the definitive turning point arrived: Danilo and his wife Antonella acquired 100% of the company’s shares and founded Fumagalli Danilo S.r.l. A formal transition, but also an act of responsibility:the family business became theirs in every sense, with a clear vision of where to take it.
FROM 2010 TO THE PRESENT
THE THIRD GENERATION
Fresh Skills, Looking Toward the Future
Erika, the eldest of Danilo’s three daughters, joins the company, bringing with her years of education and experience gained at multinational corporations. She offers a fresh perspective, able to viewthe family legacy through a different lens. She revitalizes the direct relationship with chefs and reopens thedirect channel to the endconsumer: thus, Fumagalli Delivery, a home grocery delivery service for private customers. But modernization doesn’t stop at the commercial side. Erika launches a digital transformation of the company, automates order management and logistics processes, and invests in a solar power system that makes the Besana in Brianza facility completely energy self-sufficient. Deep roots, a vision focused on the future.
And the alarm keeps going off at dawn.

As professionals in the fruit and vegetable industry, we have always had a natural sensitivity to environmental issues. These issues also depend on the initiatives and personal actions of each of us. That is why we have decided to enthusiastically join the project by Treedomproject, planting our first trees in Kenya, Tanzania, Ecuador, and Madagascar. Fruit trees and forest species will be planted and cared for by local farmers, benefiting not only the planet but also their working and living conditions.
